Funding for home energy improvements

Funding and grants for home energy improvements may be available through government-backed and energy-supplier schemes. Here’s a plain-English guide to how it usually works.

Free, no-obligation enquiry. Funding and eligibility depend on scheme rules and your circumstances.

How funding for energy improvements works

Various schemes have supported energy improvements to UK homes, including government-backed schemes and schemes run through energy suppliers. They are designed to help make homes warmer and more efficient, and they are often aimed at particular households or types of property.

Whether you can get funding, and how much, depends on the rules of the scheme and your individual circumstances. Some improvements may be partly funded, some fully funded for eligible households, and some not eligible for funding at all.

Schemes and their rules change over time. They open, close, are updated and are sometimes replaced, so what is available today may differ from what was available last year, or what will be available next year. That is one of the reasons we ask about your property and circumstances when you make an enquiry.

Warm Homes Marketplace is not a funding scheme and does not administer or decide funding. We help you understand the options that may be worth exploring and connect suitable enquiries with experienced partners.

Eligibility

Who might be eligible?

Every scheme has its own rules, but eligibility typically depends on things like:

  • Household income, or whether anyone receives certain means-tested benefits
  • The type of property you live in
  • The property’s EPC (Energy Performance Certificate) rating
  • Your current heating system
  • Whether you own or rent the property (and, if you rent, whether your landlord agrees)

These are general examples only. They are not a promise of eligibility, and the criteria can differ from one scheme to the next.

Examples of funding schemes

Schemes that have supported home energy improvements in the UK include:

  • [CLIENT TO CONFIRM: ECO4 closes 31 December 2026, keep or remove?] – an energy-supplier obligation that has supported heating and insulation improvements for eligible households.
  • [CLIENT TO CONFIRM: Boiler Upgrade Scheme] – which has offered grants towards air-source heat pumps and other low-carbon heating in some circumstances.
  • [CLIENT TO CONFIRM: Warm Homes Plan] – a government programme for improving home energy efficiency.

These are mentioned as examples only, and their details, availability and rules change. Warm Homes Marketplace is not part of, endorsed by or affiliated with any government scheme, and we can’t promise that any scheme will be available to you.
